Kingdom Now Church began as a ministry January 2007 as a Bible Institute. Bishop Jerry Hutchins started the Bible Institute as an advanced form of study for the members of Timothy Baptist Church of Athens Georgia (where he served as Senior Pastor) who were living in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The Bible Institute met each Wednesday night and in July 2007, Bishop Hutchins met with the people of Timothy and informed them that he felt God leading him to start a church in the metropolitan Atlanta area. The members of Timothy embraced the vision of an added church and agreed to change the time of their Sunday morning worship in order to accommodate the addition.

After over a year of searching for a facility, Bishop Hutchins was able to find a building at 6794 Covington Highway in Lithonia, GA. Kingdom Now Church began having service at that location on the second Sunday in November 2008. With a mission statement, vision statement, meaning of citizenship, meaning of supporter, covenant agreement, statement of faith and the leadership of Bishop and First Lady Hutchins, Kingdom Now Church was on the move.

Kingdom Now Church held several services to dedicate this new work. The dedication services were held during the first two weeks of December, 2008 with anointed preaching from Dr. Richard B. Haynes, Pastor Jesse Curney, Overseer Stephen B. Hall, and Bishop Paul S. Morton.

Kingdom Now Church remained at the Covington Highway location from November 2008 until May 24, 2009. The Church then moved to 1805 Shackleford Court, Norcross, Georgia. Many of the over sixty supporters from the Lithonia location would not make the transition, but the spirit of God continued in the Kingdom minded individuals who believed and trusted God for continued favor.

Bishop Hutchins has consistently held to the vision that God gave him regarding the development of Kingdom Now. The first five years were spent laying the foundation for the Church. During the fifth year, the Church would be called to another level of Evangelism and Church growth. Kingdom Now has embraced that vision and consequently, during the fifth year growth steady growth began to the point that it is expected to double by the end of the sixth year.

Bishop Hutchins served as Senior Pastor of Timothy Baptist Church, Athens Georgia and Senior Pastor of Kingdom Now Church simultaneously. In August 2011, Bishop Hutchins transitioned from the Senior Pastor of Timothy Baptist Church to the office of Bishop and a new senior pastor was named. This transition also proved beneficial to the advancement of Kingdom Now.

The vision demanded that the Church grow through In-reach, Out-reach, Up-reach and Down-reach. The first five years were spent teaching the church the foundations of Up-reach (praise and worship to God) and down-reach (God ministering to the people through His word).

During year five, more emphasis was placed on In-reach and Out-reach. Outreach programs that were already in place had to be taken to another level. In 2011, a toy distribution center for Toys for Tots was established at the church. Children of Gwinnett County families were blessed to receive toys, food, fruit baskets and lots of love from the Citizens of Kingdom Now. Meeting the needs of the community in this way has become an annual practice.

The Youth Ministry has consistently participated in outreach activities at local homeless shelters and food banks. A fall festival was organized and implemented in 2010 which provides needed school supplies for local school children along with health screenings, financial information, and other valuable resources to assist the community. The Church has visited area grocery stores and made food purchases for “un-expecting” patrons and inviting them to then come and worship with Kingdom Now.

On March 25, 2012, Service of Elders Ordination and Ministers Licensing was held. The service was officiated by Pastor Derek Mayweather, Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, College Park, GA. Six (6) candidates for Ordination: Evelyn Blaine, Brenda Currence, Yvette Green, Ronnie Owens, Yolanda Owens and Wanda Ritchey. Three (3) candidates for Licensing: Lillian Harling, Varlina Hopkins and LaShawn McCrary took part in the ceremony.

Under the leadership of First Lady Sheila Hutchins, a Ministry Manual has been compiled listing the over twenty (20) ministries, their functions and contact information for each ministry. The Church provides its citizens and opportunity to serve in ministries from Administrative Volunteer Ministry, Children’s Church, Christian Education, Prayer Ministry, Women’s Ministry, Men’s Ministry, and more. All Citizens are encouraged to work!

A Trustee Ministry was also established in 2013. Named to that ministry were Carol Fox-Brown, Wendy Fundunburks, C L Green and Patrick Gresham.
